RACHEL YORK is a dynamic and versatile award-winning actress and singer. She is best known for her critically acclaimed Broadway performances in City of Angels, Les Misérables, Victor/Victoria (Drama Desk Award) with Julie Andrews, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sly Fox with Richard Dreyfuss, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Jonathan Pryce. Most recently Ms. York starred on Broadway in Disaster! The Musical and the ground-breaking Go-Gos musical Head Over Heels. She also turned heads on television with her courageous portrayal of Lucille Ball in the CBS movie, Lucy.
THEATER
On tour Ms. York has earned accolades, most recently as Reno Sweeney in the national tour of the Tony-winning revival Anything Goes (Helen Hayes Award). She also created the role of Cruella de Vil in The 101 Dalmatians Musical; starred as Guenevere in Camelot (Carbonell Award); and portrayed Lilli Vanessi/Kate in Kiss Me, Kate (US and West End, Helen Hayes and IRNE Award nominations).
Off-Broadway Ms. York has starred in the musical revue The Best Is Yet to Come: The Music of Cy Coleman; Dessa Rose at Lincoln Center Theatre (Drama Desk nomination); Stephen Sondheim’s Putting It Together (Drama Desk nomination), also with Julie Andrews; as well as the highly acclaimed New York City Center Encores! productions of Little Me and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Favorite regional productions include Grey Gardens (Ovation Award nomination) in the dual roles of Edith Bouvier Beale and “Little” Edie Beale, opposite Betty Buckley; The King and I (Barrymore Award nomination); Hello, Dolly! (IRNE Award); Into the Woods (IRNE Award); 42nd Street (IRNE Award nomination); and Turn of the Century opposite Jeff Daniels. Ms. York has also recently starred in the Broadway-bound musical adaptations of the blockbuster movies Ever After and Dave.
TELEVISION
On television, Ms. York appears in recurring roles on the network broadcast series FBI: Most Wanted and Prodigal Son, and Filthy Rich now on Apple TV. She has also appeared on Power, Elementary, The Mick, Hannah Montana, Frasier, Reba, Numb3rs, Close to Home, Arli$$, Spin City, The Naked Truth and Diagnosis Murder. In addition, she is the voice of Bitty in Higglytown Heroes and Circe on The Justice League.
FILM
On film Ms. York can be seen in the recent feature It Had to Be You directed by Sasha Gordon. Other film credits include Cradle Swapping, One Fine Day, Happy Feet, Billy Bathgate, Killer Instinct, Second Honeymoon, Au Pair II, and the CBS made for television movie, Lucy. Her performances in Kiss Me, Kate (filmed for PBS’s Great Performances series) and Victor/Victoria are available on video/DVD.
CONCERTS
In concert, Ms. York has appeared as a soloist worldwide including appearances with the New York Pops; the National Symphony; the Pittsburgh Pops; the Philly Pops; the Hollywood Bowl; the Israeli Opera; and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. She tours her concert tribute to James Bond movie themes The Spy Who Loved Me with symphony orchestras nationwide, and performs her one-woman show Thank You for the Music to critical acclaim. Ms. York is also a Godmother for Crystal Cruises Debussy and performs on board as a headliner in the Crystal Broadway series.
